This is our first attempt to compress the huge audio file of one of Mama's shows into a more accessible Flash video.

This program originally aired on KPFA Berkeley on December 27, 1991. This excerpt is the first 22 minutes of that day's show and shows off Mama's wit and political passion as she looks forward to New Year 1992. She interviews attorney John Mayer about Tibet and responds to listeners who had written her letters over the past few weeks. Then she opens up the phone lines and a lively conversation ensues about the merits of socialism versus communism. Musician and longtime KPFA programmer Gorman Lee calls to wish Mama a Happy Kwaanzza, and at the end Chuy Varela comes in with a terrible haircut, and Mama and engineer Janice tease him mercilessly. Mama ends the show on a serious note, praising people who were politically active in 1991.
