I Am Lieberman. November 10 2009: Wouldn't you just love to be Joe Lieberman right now? There's nothing he loves more than attention, and now he feels like he's got the Democrats right where he wants them. He's the belle of the freakin' ball. He's got a face for radio, but oh how he loves to be on the teevee. As the health insurance reform bill lurches toward the Senate, Joe is getting ready for his close-ups on the talking head shows. He'll threaten to filibuster the bill for one reason or another -- the looming deficit, socialism, the end of the money train from Joe's insurance-lobby contributors -- and get his frightening countenance on the evening news once more. Joe has always wanted to leave a lasting legacy. I guess he's ready to go down in history as The Man Who Killed Health Care in America. Way to go, Joe. What an accomplishment.

Hey, Look At Me! Look At Me!
Ol' Joe told the Connecticut Post three months ago he was specifically in favor of extending Medicare to Americans 55 and older. Two months ago he told the Post he was in favor of the public option. And now, Sloppy Joe won't even allow the health care bill to come to vote if it has either of those provisions. It didn't take him long to decide to put the big ol' kibosh on the whole thing. Oh yeah, he used to be against the filibuster some 15 years ago. Today he'll be happy to filibuster standing alone if need be, to make sure Congress doesn't vote to save American lives by providing them access to health care. Faster than a speeding turtle ... more powerful than a fresh waffle ... able to leap tall hypocrisies in a single bound -- Look, up on the TV! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's ... LieberMan!!! |

Update December 15 2009: It's all about getting attention. Heavens to betsy, Joe Lieberman must truly love the spotlight. If he can't be America's hero, he'll be America's jackass. He doesn't care, as long as his name is in the papers.
