beautiful mind

I have a confession: This song was inspired by the jingle in a candy commercial I kept seeing on TV. I liked the beat and the happy feel and just kinda emulated it, and this is the result.

I kept the lyrics simple and silly, sung from the viewpoint of a naive girl who believes everything a cute boy says to her. He need do very little to make her heart flutter. But after two verses of this innocuous goofiness, all of a sudden it seemed like it was time for a sexy bridge. I do enjoy that sexy bridge.

My favorite line is in the third verse, "I'll hold you like flowers hold the sun." As the spring flowers continued to stand bright and sunny even on the greyest and rainiest days, it occurred to me that what we were looking at was the flowers' memory of sunny days, made visible. They hold the sun through the darkest of days, and that's just the way I'll hold you.

lyrics

beautiful mind
janice leber 2014

I love you, you sparkle and you shine
I love you, you tell me that you're mine
and every time I look at you
I know that every word you say is true, I do
I love you
You have a beautiful mind.
Shalalala, shalalala, you have a beautiful mind. ooh
Shalalala, Shalalala, you have a beautiful mind.

I want you to show me that you care
I want you to know I will be there
and every time you speak my name
I know for sure you feel the same
I want you
You have a beautiful mind.
Shalalala, shalalala, you have a beautiful mind. ooh
Shalalala, Shalalala, you have a beautiful mind.

Why don't you talk to me
Yeah, talk to me
I love every word that you say
Come on and talk with me
Take a walk with me
I'll be there with you every step of the way
Now don't be spurnin' me
Come on and turn to me
and flash me that psycho smile
Show your style, I'll make it worth your while
Gimme an inch and I'll give you a mile

I'll hold you
Like flowers hold the sun
I'll hold you
oh, let me be the one
and every time you look my way
I forget was I was going to say
OK, I'll hold you
You have a beautiful mind.
Shalalala, shalalala, you have a beautiful mind. ooh
Shalalala, Shalalala, you have a beautiful mind.

writing the song
Well yeah, I wrote the song after the umpteenth viewing of a certain candy commercial. The TV jingle was pretty cute but at least this song isn't trying to sell you candy. The bridge is all about getting a certain someone to let me know they're interested in me (or at least my mind).

Once again, the audio was recorded on the Garage Band app on the ipad., and the guitar riffs really add to the feel of the song. I put a flange filter on the vocal tracks which makes it sound noticeably off-key, but I really liked how the effect came out, and decided to keep it like that.

making the video
I'm still getting used to my new animation software, and I spent many, many hours on this thing. It was like a second job. I'm hoping my newfound expertise in this application will make for less animating effort in the future, because the sun is starting to come out and I have no intention of spending this much time staring at a computer and muttering to myself through the glorious days of summer.

So either I've gotten good at this quickly, or I'm going to be making some pretty simple animations this year. Tune in next month to find out!
